Useful technology emerges from clear decisions about context, responsibility and the way people work. Three considerations for data engineering.

01

Name the meaning

A field name is not a business definition. Agree units, time semantics, ownership and acceptable gaps with the teams producing and consuming the data.

02

Detect change early

Validate schemas and quality expectations where data enters a pipeline. Quarantine or flag unexpected changes instead of silently passing them downstream.

03

Design for the consumer

Expose freshness, lineage and known limitations alongside a data product. Consumers need enough context to judge whether it is appropriate for their decision.

Start with a workflow you can understand, observe and improve.

These are general design considerations. Implementation depends on the system, users and operational requirements.
