Useful technology emerges from clear decisions about context, responsibility and the way people work. Three considerations for industrial iot.

01

Understand the environment

Document which systems hold process data, which interfaces are approved and who owns changes. Availability and safety responsibilities must be clear before implementation.

02

Separate visibility from control

A monitoring use case may be satisfied through a read-only integration. Do not introduce control capabilities simply because an interface technically supports them.

03

Plan for data quality

Equipment clocks, sampling rates and connectivity differ. Show freshness and provenance, and agree how missing or contradictory signals should appear to an operator.

Start with a workflow you can understand, observe and improve.

These are general design considerations. Implementation depends on the system, users and operational requirements.
