Useful technology emerges from clear decisions about context, responsibility and the way people work. Three considerations for telematics.

01

Start with the operator

A map is only one part of a fleet product. Ask what dispatch, maintenance and partner teams need to decide, and how quickly those decisions need to happen.

02

Normalize without losing context

Preserve original timestamps, device identifiers and quality signals while translating protocol-specific events into a shared model. Reprocessing should remain possible when mappings change.

03

Represent uncertainty

A stale location should not look live. Show data freshness, connectivity state and incomplete records so that operators understand the limits of the information in front of them.

Start with a workflow you can understand, observe and improve.

These are general design considerations. Implementation depends on the system, users and operational requirements.
